Tyler was having a hard night and I told him to go get in our bed. When I came upstairs to go to bed, this is what I found. Tyler brought his monkey and put it to bed on Joseph's pillow. If you look closely, Tyler is holding the monkeys hand. (The monkey is what Joseph got for him when he left, it has a box inside the hand that he can push to hear Joseph's message.)

My To-Do list

Well with Joseph working out of town, I have been thinking about what to do while he's gone. I am a night owl by nature, but Joseph prefers me to relax with him in the evenings. So I have realized how much I can get done in an evening and how motivated I become when the sun goes down. While I am "unable" to do much, I came up with a list so I am prepared for when i'm back up and running. So here it is....in no particular order of importance....

Clean out and organize garage
Change over my files for 2010
Clean out my bathroom sink cabinets
Purge retirement files
Make CPA appointment
Revisit old cleaning schedule
Make piano lesson appointment for Brooklynn
Email my Dad and Rachel
Install deadbolt on garage door
Get a bench and coat hooks for "mud room space in Garage"
Take the huge pile of "stuff" to thrift store
Clean up all the "paper clutter" in my office and the kitchen
Create a more organized system for my "paper clutter"

Hmmm, I think thats enough for now....at least I was able to take a few off the list today!

When we moved to this house we chose this lamp as the theme of Tyler's room. I couldn't figure out what to do with this large wall so I asked Joe to paint something. So he painted the "scene" from Tyler's lampshade free hand. He is so talented! It came out great, and Tyler loves it!

Bicycle Milestones

Last week Tyler told me he wanted to learn to ride a 2 wheeler, so on Sunday we set out with the hopes of no broken bones. Well Brooklynn could NOT let her little brother ride without training wheels before her so she wanted to learn too. Well we all had fun, and most importantly no trips to the ER!

I can't believe I have a 6 year old! Where has the time gone?!?!?! Well we started celebrating early on her birthday with mickey mouse pancakes. We had a party for her at school with all of her friends. She served them specially ordered cupcakes designed by Brooklnn. Then we had a cake and ice cream get together that evening. And of course presents!!!!

Easter 2009

We had Easter at our house again this year. I hope to make it a tradition because I really enjoy having a holiday! My "Koch" side was able to join us which was great because we don't see them as often. We spent the day relaxing, enjoying some grub and the company! The kids had a great time hunting for 90 something eggs! It was a great day!

Tonight we had root beer floats. Unfortunatly Brooklynn wasn't feeling up to having one so Tyler took on the task alone. This was his first one and as you can see, he thought it was heaven. So here is the sequence of events.....
1. Hmmm what is this exactly???

3. Now they tell me to eat it?......Oh yea ice cream!

Car washing

On Saturday we took the kids out to wash Daddy's truck. Sadly this was the first time either of the kids had seen this. Brooklynn asked "Mommy, why are WE washing it? Why don't we just take it to the car wash?" Oh boy what have we created?!?! So needless to say this was a good lesson that WE can wash the cars just as well as the car wash....and have a great time doing it!

Spring Week....Twin Day, Spelling Bee, Awards

Last week was Spring Week at Brooklynn's school. Now this is a big deal for her because they let you wear "regular" clothes to school. So Tuesday was "Twin Day". I have to say THANK YOU KELLY for including Brooklynn. Kelly went out and bought the girls matching shirts and we all agreed on the rest of the outfit. They were so cute!

On Thursday Brooklynn had her first Spelling Bee. Nine students had recieved a 30/30 on their spelling test the previous Friday. So this class spelling bee was to narrow it down to 3 who will go on to compete against the other 2 Kindergarten classes on April 22.

Brooklynn was so excited!!! She got 1st place with Sydney in 2nd and Katelynn in 3rd.

Then on Friday they had their 2nd quarter attendance award. She got her award for 100% attendance.

Bowling

Every Sunday we have "family dinner" with my in-laws. This particular Sunday we all decided to go bowling. We all really enjoyed ourselves, but I have to say I had the most fun watching the kids. The last time we all went bowling, none of the kids could pick up a ball, let alone try to "bowl" with it. This time was a different story! They had their own lane and they were having the best time! It was fun watching their expressions and being so excited about it. It was a great time!

Shaver Cabin with the Oaxaca's

In the middle of March we went up to the cabin in Shaver. We invited our friends Kim, Al and Olivia to come with us. Kim and I met at the begining of the school year. Both our daughters are in Mrs. Prewitts class and we have become fast friends. This was the first time our families had gotten away together and it was a blast! The snow was perfect right next to the cabin and the kids played in it most of the day. It was a great way to relax and enjoy the company of our great friends. We can't wait to do it again!

After last years pouring rain at our annual camping trip to Dinky, Joe and I have been talking about tent trailers. We had been looking for several months on craigslist and we finally found the "perfect" one this weekend. It is a 1999 made by coleman, the people who sold it to us kept it in great condition, they even still had the plastic on the mattresses! The kids and I are very excited to use it! We brought it home yesterday and I got to work packing it up! To my surprise, all the things we keep in tupperwares for camping fit into our new trailer. Now if we can just hang on until Memorial day to use it!

This end has a king size bed for us! It also has a sink, full hook ups for power and water, a 50 gal holding tank, 3 burner stove inside and a 2 burner stove that hooks to the outside.

And this end is a full for the kids. Also this other "bed" down below, folds up into a dining table and benches! Keep scrolling down, there are more pictures to enjoy!

Late last week, Brooklynn and I planted our vegetable garden. We planted 3 kinds of tomatos, red bell peppers, hot pepppers for Joe and strawberries. I think i'm going to add some herbs also. The kids are very excited and can't wait to harvest their first veggie!

Brooklynn's teacher gave select students in her class an opportunity to participate in the Fresno County Young Authors' Faire. Brooklynn was required to do a rough draft, final draft and illustrate. I'm so proud of what she came up with. She did a wonderful job and she is so proud of her work and is excited to turn it in tomorrow. She keeps telling me that she hopes it wins her some money. That girl is too funny!

Superbowl

Well we had our first Superbowl party last weekend. We had 6 couples and 13 children! I was a little nervous about how to keep 13 kids entertained for 5 hours but I have to say it was easy! I can't take all the credit though, with the wonderful weather that day all the kids wanted to do was play outside! Yea for Sunshine!!! We had a great time seeing all of our friends and stuffing ourselves until we (or atleast me) burst. I hope to be able to get together with everyone again soon!

The Wii

Well along with a million other people this christmas I got a Wii. I am not a video game player. I cannot understand the fun in playing first person shooter games for hours on end, or playing Super Mario. Maybe it's just that I am NOT cordinated enough to push all the buttons at the right time or fast enough. So the Wii was right up my alley....all I have to do is "act" like I am really doing it and magicly it happens! Woo Hoo!

Also in my mommy mind, I figured that if the kids could play it too, then I probably would have a good chance of playing it more often. And call it family time. Double Bonus!!!

I Feel Like Superwoman!

1. I sorted through piles of crap........oh I mean clutter.

2.I paid all of my bills

3. Did 2 loads of dishes

4. Convinced Tyler to eat a turkey sandwich for lunch

5. Took out the recycleing

6. Picked up and delivered the santa photos to Brooklynn's Teacher

7. Returned some phone calls

8. Made Dinner

If only everyday I could get off my butt and get this much accomplished. Maybe now that I have written down what I am truely capable of, it will motivate me to keep it up..............hmmm only time will tell.....lol

Jog-A-Thon

Last Wednesday Brooklynn had her first Jog-A-Thon. She completed 12 laps.....woo hoo, go Brooklynn! She raised $120 for her classroom and will be going on a field trip to either the roller rink or bowling. She had alot of fun but boy did we freeze our tushies off!

Homework Time

A Christmas Tree for Great Grandma Reba

I thought it would be fun for the kids and I to surprise Great Grandma Reba with a christmas tree, some lights, and of course orniments. The kids loved being able to decorate it all by themselves and Grandma loved watching them. Now Grandma has a little Christmas spirit at her house and the kids got a taste of what it's like to "give".

Thanksgiving Day Feast and Fun Day

Well, I tried to do this before and lost it so here it goes again....lol
The Friday before Thanksgiving, Brooklynn's class had a feast. The cafeteria supplied the fixin's and a few mom's and I decorated. After their feast they went on to their "Fun day". That is a day for Kindergarteners who collected 25 green stickers for good behavior in the last 6 weeks. They went to stations and were able to do alot of fun activities. The other moms and I maned a station each and the kids were able to play with play-doh, paint, frost cookies, and play bingo. All the kids had a blast! Now we are on to collecting for the next "Fun Day".

Blossom Trails Pre-School

Tyler has been at his new pre-school for about a month now. I wanted to share some pictures of his classroom and a project he did there. I am very pleased with the pre-school change. He is learning so much, the other day he came up to me and said "Mom, listen to how I can count in spanish". He then counted to 8! I was sad to change schools but now I can see what a difference it has made. He really likes his teachers and looks forward to going.....at least most days!

Halloween Time!

Halloween is here again! I love Halloween....I have fond memories of trick-or-treating and I love re-living it through my kids. This is the first year Tyler has really gotten into it. He kept referring to himself as spiderman....spiderman is hungry, spiderman wants this or that. It was too cute! Brooklynn looked absolutely adorable...if I do say so myself :) We decided to go to my in-laws neighbourhood because of all the empty houses in ours. It was a great time, there were alot of houses giving out candy but not a whole lot of kids. The kids had a blast, they are already coming up with ideas for next years costumes!

Brooklynn's Award Ceremony

Brooklynn's school had their first award ceremony last week. I think every quarter her teacher will select 5 students to acknowledge. The awards can be for excelling in something learning related...reading, writing, math ect. or personal qualities....good manners, social skills, ect. Brooklynn was given her award in reading. Mrs. Prewitt said that she is reading at a 2nd grade level, that she really enjoys reading to her peers or by herself in their reading corner. I am SO proud of her! I hope she continues in her love of reading, it is such a great thing!

Pumpkin Painting

This year I thought it might be fun for the kids to paint their pumpkins instead of carving them. Neither one of our kids is very excited to "pull out the guts" and are bored when "we" are carving their pumpkins. So I thought why not paint? Well it was a hit! The kids had a great time. We did it at Great Grandma's house in the back yard.....yea for very little clean up! So until they are big enough to do it themselves this might just be our new tradition!

Well Joeseph finally got a motorcycle, as you can see he's as happy as a little boy on Christmas Day. He's talked about his desire to have one for a few years now. He finally found the style he wanted at a great price so now he is the proud owner of his very own Yamaha Classic. I'm not very crazy about the idea, but how can you not be happy for him when he can't stop smiling. I'm glad he has something that makes him so happy, what will make me happy is if he can keep himself from getting killed :)

Today Joseph's parents treated the kids to a ride on a "real" train. Tyler and his cousin Isaiah LOVE trains. Mostly they know about Thomas the train, but any train will do. So today they got to ride "Thomas" to Hanford and then we walked to Superior Dairy for lunch and fabulous ice cream. If you've never been you have to go at least once. So after filling our bellies we boarded the train back to Fresno. It was the perfect trip! Thank you Gramma and Papa for a great day!

Name Change

As you can see, i've changed my blog name. When all my friends started blogs I wanted to jump on the bandwagon, of course I wanted a catchy blog name. But i've come to realize that I want to be more "real". That if i'm going to blog about "my" life then it's going to be the "fun" and "crappy". That is who I am for better or worse~love me or hate me :) So now to explain how my new name came to be....a long time ago I read this book called "Mothering without a map". The title drew me to it, like the smell of coffee brewing on a very tired morning. Here is a little exerpt to help you undersand why I like it so much.....
"Every woman longs to be a good mother. But what about women who grew up feeling "under-mothered"-whose mothers were absent, distracted, distant, depressed, well meaning but inept, or otherwise fell short in some vital way? How are they to become the good mothers they aspire to be?"
How can I become the good mother that I aspire to be.....that is a question I ask myself often and hope to find the answer too. I invite you, my friends, family, and people I hold dear to join me on this journey of Mothering without a map.

A letter to my husband....

7 years ago today we sealed our lives together with a kiss. That day was one of the happiest days of my life. Here we are 7 years later and I still love to think about that day in September. Our lives have have maneuvered through the twist and turns of finishing school, first home, and kids. And through it all I wouln't have wanted to "ride that ride" with anyone but you. It hasn't always been easy, or maybe better said, I haven't always been easy, but your willingness to listen, being open to change, and supporting "me" and "us" through it all makes me love you more each day. You are the most wonderful man, husband and father. I want you to know how much I love you! And I can't wait to see where our next 7 years takes us.

Dinky Creek Weekend

We went camping this weekend with my in-laws. Camping with them is always a good time. Usually we go on Memorial Day weekend (which we did but it rained the whole time), so we decided to go 1 more time. We stayed in the "C" loop, a first for us. No one knew what the site would be like but it turned out great. We didn't get there until after dark, let me tell you putting up a tent in the dark takes skill! So after we got settled we ate some great stew (thanks to Pam) sat by the fire and finally turned in a little after 11pm. And then the fun begins.....

We were getting settled and Beth come over to the tent and says the family next to us has just seen a bear! Joseph gets his shoes on and heads to the truck for his rifle. He tells me to stay in the tent so here I am, alone with Brooklynn sleeping, and Tyler jumping on his bed. Then I hear it....IT...the sound is like a deep intake of air and exhaling growling noise. My mind is racing....how do I get both kids to the truck????? I see Beth and say where's Joseph?!?! I want to get in the truck!!!!! Then as soon as it all began someone says "it's not a bear it's someone snoring in this tent!" I have never been so relieved! Needless to say I still didn't sleep very well that night!

So the next day the guy left to go fishing. Pam had taken the kids for a walk, so Beth and I were enjoying the quiet and taking a few minutes to catch up. Beth went to her tent to grab something and then something caught my attention. I turn to my left and this is what I saw......I yell for Beth, Beth, come here! She pops her head out of the tent and says what?!?! I say Beethhhh, come here! It's a freeking tranchula! Now this could not have happened at a worse time. Beth and I are the biggest spider phobes around! So here we are, I'm jumping around like I have ants in my pants and we are trying to figure out what to do about it. We can't just let it go on it's way because we would not know where it went. So we decided that I would but a lid on it and let the "Men" handle it. So when they came back Joe took care of it. I LOVE YOU JOE!!! Here's a clip of it it motion....

So can you "nest" without being pregnant? I'm starting to think so...what else could have made me spend hours on my weekend doing this?!?!

I started to wonder if maybe I was loosing my mind. What other explanation is there for cleaning the sliding glass door track with a toothbrush...inside and out???

I wonder if Joseph is thinking he died and went to heaven....intense cleaning without the hugely pregnant wife.

ANTS!!

OMG!!! I HATE ANTS! Why can't they just die?!?!?!? I swear they must be SUPER ANTS because no spray will kill them. But maybe, just maybe I have found the kriptonite for the SUPER ANTS. They seem to love it, now to just wait and see if they DIE! DIE ANTS DIE!

Tyler had a first day of his own yesterday. He was moved up to the Teddy Bear class at his preschool. His new teacher is Miss. Erica and he just loves her. He says he's ready to have homework like his big sister. Tyler, you maybe growing up too, but you'll always be my "baby". I love you!

Bass Lake

This past Sunday we were invited to Bass Lake with my dad and sister. They live in L.A. and came up to vacation at the lake. We had a blast! This was the first time that the kids had been on a boat, and it was a hit! We were on the lake for 5 hours and boy it flew by. I think we have some water babies on our hands!

The Kindergardener

Brooklynn's first day of school was last Thurday. She got up extra early (before 6am) and came into my room already dressed for school. She wanted to eat and be off to school. Unfortunately her school doesn't start until 8:40, so it was a loooong wait. Well the time finally came to leave for school and we were off! We arrived at the cafateria, (that is where the kids meet each morning and their teacher takes them to class) and she found her teacher and visited with her new classmates. I was able to hold back my tears until she lined up and was on her way to class. I'm so proud of my little, oh I mean "big" girl.

Well the time has come for my first born to start Kindergarden. I have so many emotions as this milestone has arrived. I share in Brooklynn's excitement, it's contagious. I long for the baby that I used to hold in my arms. I look forward to all the new experiences she will have and stories she will share about this new stage in her life.
